This is not a car book in the usual sense, but rather a piece of Danish history about production, trade, marketing and entrepreneurship.

Car and assembly factories in the 20th century.

CAR HISTORY - INDUSTRIAL HISTORY - CULTURAL HISTORY - SOCIAL HISTORY It is widely believed that no cars have been produced in Denmark... But the opposite is true: Almost a million cars have been produced! Now comes the book that sheds light on this aspect of Danish industrial history and car culture. The Christmas present of the year, especially for men who are interested in technology and history! The first two decades of the 20th century saw a revolutionary development of not only the car itself, but also the manufacturing process, which went from craftsmanship of a few units to mass production. The Danish attempts at an automotive industry did not get past the initial stage before the foreign car factories showed their strength. On the other hand, the growing popularity of cars meant that there were advantages to assembling cars locally. The first were Ford Motor Company (1919) and General Motors (1924). Over the years, more than 40 different car brands have been assembled in Denmark. The assembly factories had an impact on the development of the industry through inspiration from American organization, but the foreign factories also had to adapt to Danish conditions, including our labor market conditions. In the interwar years, the majority of all cars for the Danish market were assembled in Denmark. During the occupation, the factories kept employment up by manufacturing gas generators - and working for the occupying forces. In the post-war period, production grew through the 1950s, when there were also tariff advantages to assembling cars in Denmark, but the factories were too small and unprofitable in the long run. The assembly plants closed one by one throughout the 1960s. The last and largest didn't close until 1974. Around 920,000 cars were assembled in Denmark. In comparison, around 10,000 cars were produced by Danish car brands in the last century. This is a piece of industrial history that has yet to be analyzed and described. The book is based on a large number of sources. The book also contains more than 750 photos and illustrations.
